Summer is here and it is time for your vacation. You have already decided where and when you are going. You've lined up someone to look after the pets and plants and you are ready to hit the road. Have you given any thought to eating? Here are some tips on how to continue eating healthy, even when you are on vacation.
It is easy to fall into the trap of eating what’s available, which is usually quick and easy. You can still find ways to eat healthy. Most airlines don't provide meals anymore unless your trip is going to be a long one. Instead of eating the snack they provide, which is usually a bag of nuts or chips, carry some fresh fruit or veggies with you. Stick a granola bar in your pocket or purse or bag up some trail mix to eat.
If you are traveling by car, it is so easy to just pull into a fast food or convenient store. One suggestion is to pack some food before you leave. Put ice packs in a cooler and load it with fresh fruit, veggies, juices, yogurt, healthy sandwiches and crackers. Then you can just pull into a picnic area or rest stop and eat when you get hungry. Not only will it be healthier, it will also be cheaper.
If you are going to stop at fast food restaurants, remember that most of them now include healthy choices on their menus, such as apple pieces, yogurt, fruit parfaits and salads. Choose these selections instead of the greasy breakfast sandwiches and burgers and fries.
If you are stopping at a quick stop, a lot of them now have a section with healthy sandwiches, low fat yogurt, sugar free Jell-o, salads, sports drinks, juices and cheese sticks.
