Chemotherapy and It's Side Effects

Chemotherapy is the most common form of cancer treatment used today. There are, however, side effects that are fairly common and vary from person to person.

The side effects of chemotherapy can be short or long term or, in some cases, permanent. They have even caused death in rare cases. Some of the more common side effects are constipation, diarrhea, anemia, and hair loss, just to name a few. Side effects can also adversely affect the normal plan of patient treatment due to sickness.

Chemotherapy drugs are another form of treatment that can also have long or short term effects. One of the effects from these drugs is when they attack the healthy cells that are attempting to rejuvenate. This can prolong the treatment and adversely affect it. Side effects can also occur based on the length of time the drug has been taken, the overall health of the patient, or the strength of the dosage or medication administered.

Most people consider the worst when confronted with chemotherapy treatment because of the side effects. With today's advanced medicines, people experience far less side effects than from years ago. On a good note, these side effects can be countered with medication.

Some of the more common side effects of chemotherapy drugs are hair loss, nausea or vomiting, feelings of fatigue, and anemia. These are just a few of the side effects. Most of the side effects will not harm in the long term, and will cease once the chemotherapy treatment is concluded. The best advice is to confer with your doctor.
